English Country Garden Wedding at Houghton Lodge, Hampshire

June 2022

We are so thrilled to share some of the beautiful photos from Janie and Graeme's wedding at the stunning Houghton Lodge, just outside of Stockbridge, Hampshire.

All photos used with huge thanks to Emma Moore

Janie's brief for her wedding flowers was to feel 'as if the gardens at Houghton Lodge had grown into the buildings and to feel as if they had been transported to a magical woodland glade' for their ceremony. The bouquets were filled with scent from gorgeous roses and sweet peas with campanula, chinese forget-me-not, foxgloves, sanguisorba, silene and alchemilla adding texture and movement. The ribbons, as always, are naturally dyed, sustainable silk from Lancaster and Cornish.

The ceremony took place in the Chinese Dining Room of Houghton Lodge with the scent of roses and sweet peas filling the room. Due the wallpaper being rather fabulous in itself (silk, wallpaper hand painted in China), we wanted the flowers to feel an extension of the pattern and complement the design rather than contrast too highly. The room was softly lit by candles with chair drapes from House of Styling adding to the magical feeling.

The wedding breakfast took place in The Orangery in the Walled Garden. Taking inspiration from the fabulous vine that grows at one end of The Orangery we hung foliage along the rest of the beams to create the magical, woodland, fairy grotto feeling that Janie had described to us. Honeysuckle added scent, with beech, ivy, and clematis creating the garlands that wove between the drapes installed by House of Styling.

Continuing with the brief of transporting the gardens into The Orangery we filled bud vases with roses, sweet peas, mint and more to combine with the candles to create a beautiful, scented tablescape down the the long wedding breakfast table.

A key element of their wedding day was to source everything as locally as possible due to their involvement with Local Zero (Zero Waste shop and Local Sustainable Shopping). So it was perfect that most of the flowers for their wedding were grown by us 5 miles up the road! (The longer stemmed roses were sourced from The Real Flower Company while ours get fully established on the field.)

As part of our mission to reduce waste, we suggested to Janie that she collected old jam jars in the lead up to her wedding. At the end of the night guests were invited to take flowers from the displays and put them in the jam jars to take home as an extra wedding favour - meaning the flowers were enjoyed for far longer than the one day!

Thank you so much to Janie and Graeme for sharing these photos with us - we loved growing and designing your wedding flowers!
